Sarah Ens is a writer and editor based in Treaty 1 territory (Winnipeg, MB). Her debut collection of poetry, The World Is Mostly Sky, was shortlisted for the 2021 McNally Robinson Book of the Year Award and the 2022 Lansdowne Prize for Poetry. Her second book, Flyway, a long poem set in the tall grass prairie, launched spring 2022. Winner of The New Quarterly's 2019 Edna Staebler Personal Essay Contest and Room Magazine's 2018 Short Forms Contest, her writing has also appeared in Prairie Fire, Arc Poetry Magazine, Contemporary Verse 2, SAD Mag, and Poetry Is Dead. Sarah holds a BFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia and an MFA in Writing from the University of Saskatchewan. A freelance editor and copyeditor, Sarah is also the promotions and publicity coordinator at University of Manitoba Press.

I tend to use desks as receptacles for receipts and books and mail. The kitchen table is for writing and I try to keep it pretty tidy.
I used to stay up worrying about things (climate change, whether or not the cat ate a small piece of string) but have improved my methods for falling asleep over the past few years. Unfortunately, I’ve started sleepwalking, so now I wake up trying to climb into my closet or crashing into the electric fan at the foot of my bed, which is worrying.
I’d like to make a wonderful sourdough loaf. I’d like my friends and family to know me as someone who makes wonderful sourdough loaves.
