Skylar Kay is an Albertan poet and trans woman currently living in Windsor while she completes her MA in English. She has an interest in Japanese poetic forms—namely haiku and haibun. She found solace in haiku, as it not only made her pay more attention to her immediate surroundings, but it also allowed her to write through her gender transition in a concrete and approachable way. This writing style culminated in her debut collection of poetry, Transcribing Moonlight, which came out with Frontenac House in April 2022. Her next project, currently titled Marginalia, embraces free verse poems to explore how the city of Windsor—a border town on the margins of Canada—reflects her own hybrid and liminal identity as a trans woman.
