He is the former editor-in-chief of the Puritan, and the editor of After Realism: 24 Stories for the 21st Century, an anthology of short fiction. His work has appeared in a variety of magazines and newspapers in Canada and the United States. He splits his time between Sheffield and Toronto.

My parents were generally happy with me reading whatever I wanted as a child, but they disapproved of too much dirty language. I think I was reprimanded for reading a Bernard Cornwall historical novel—it had taught me a bunch of new, very British swear words. Eventually I realized that there was just as much smut in Chaucer. And who was going to discourage a teenager from reading Chaucer?

Aside from the wars, the changing climate, and the collapse of the traditional bookselling industry, I guess the thing that most keeps me up at night is the thought that the vast majority of the oral and written literature humans have produced over the long millennia of our existence has been completely lost to time.
I’ve long wanted to cross the Atlantic on a boat. On one of those container ships, maybe, or some sort of large industrial vessel.
